There are enough lines of captive bred turtles I assume so people would not need to take them from the wild. I fully agree with a ban.
It feels a little hypocritical of me being a turtle owner to say they belong in the wild. I enjoy owning and watching them but I do often pity them and wonder how captivity affects them. I will try to give them the best life I can in my care and would like to think they're at least content.

Unfortunately many that are taken from the wild are not kept as pets but sold for food, as the article mentions...this issue far outweighs (I believe) the impacts caused from people taking them to keep as pets, not that I think that's a good idea either, but that at least may only be one or two turtles here and there instead of a whole slew of them sold for meat.
