alcohol gel

Post by TeRRaPin_oWn3r_sam » Tue Apr 24, 2012 5:05 am

I would like to recommend using alcohol gel for cleaning hands after handling terrapins because it does not need to be rinsed off so its quick to use it also kills 99.9% of bacteria its also pretty cheap

I don't get on with the stuff personally, I always want to wash it off my hands, but whatever works and kills germs is always a good idea when you consider terrapins carry salmonella as a natural gut bacteria.

It is the 0.1% that kill you.

Actually it doesn't kill several of the common Staph bacterium (S. difficile or aureum). In hospitals they recommend washing with soap for these.

I also hate the feel of the gel, so I have a 3-step cleaning process.

1) Wash hands with hot water and liquid soap.

2) Dry, then apply alcohol gel.

3) After a while, when the gel has had time to do its stuff, I wash again with soap and warm water.

.... sometimes I forget step 3, eat something, and all I can taste is the alcohol gel, even up to an hour later :(
