Yearling Alligator Snapping Turtle

Post by K_Man83 » Sun Oct 29, 2017 8:21 pm

I bought a yearling (1.5) Alligator snapping turtle yesterday for 2500 Sek or 300 USD. I have it in a 300 liter Aquarium. Fluval 306. Jäger 250w (older model)
Fluorescent lights 1000k spectrum. Upgrading to full spectrum or 6500 K. The AST ate 2 baby mice today.
I need advice on tank setup. The tank seems empty....
Thanks everyone! Oh and water temp is 27.5 to 28 Celsius.

Here is my tank. File is too big for the site. I used pasteboard. Let me know what I should change.

Sorted your pic, looks great ~thmbu

Don't worry about it looking empty, don't forget that in the wild they will live in murky lakes with not much around on the bottom in order to wait and ambush their prey, and the more tank furniture you have, the more places there are to gather mess making cleaning more difficult.

Thanks Neil! Do you think I should have a bit less water in the tank?

I would say that looks great for a yearling ali snapper, they're decent swimmers when they can be bothered to put the effort in, but prefer to expend as little effort as possible so the log to climb up is ideal :)
