Post by Andyawatson23 » Mon Feb 03, 2014 8:21 am

I have two terrapins, possibly one male and one female. This morning I have found something in the water that looks turtle shaped but tiny....

Where is it now? Been a while since I went pond life hunting, but looks like a water boatman maybe, or a great diving beetle. Not sure how either would get in your tank, but both great native species who would do well to be put in a pond come spring :)

Just on the side. It appears to be dead what ever it is. Might take it to pet shop just out of interest!!

Give it a gentle nudge, it may just be settled in, certainly can't see it doing your guys any harm so you could leave it and see :)

Might get eaten, might not, depends how big they (and it!) are, and whether they think it looks food-y. A local pet shop MAY know what it is, but more than likely it will a some spotty kid who barely knows a goldfish from a whale who's paid to work the till, and of course releasing it if it were to be a non-native species is against the law!
