Re: Is this shell rot?

I think you were right Neil. A couple of weeks inside with temps as you suggested and he's re-animated ~wink-smile Feeding well, basking and taking an interest in his surroundings in general. I wonder, is it a cooter thing? Maybe it was just too cold - I wonder if I should just only put him out in t...

Re: false map needing a good home

Hello Bellaboo Sorry to hear you've been let down. I'd be able to take her on but unfortunately, you're in the Far East and I'm down in Cornwall. Well done for getting this far though - hopefully someone a bit nearer will be able to help. At least you know the sort of set up that anyone who takes he...

Re: Is this shell rot?

Ok - so I hoiked him out of the pond today as he was "basking" after dusk last night and it was cold here. I put him in a plasterers bath in the garage with a water heater and basking light that I over wintered him and a slider in last year after they were found dumped. The slider is loving the pond...

Re: Is this shell rot?

Thanks Neil, that make sense now
I've seen it in younger turtles but it looks quite alarming on a bigger scale in larger animals.
Especially as, being in a pond, they're not visible constantly.
I'm more happy to leave him over winter outside now.

Re: Is this shell rot?

The pond is a duckweed farm! So there's more than enough greens- I just add some wheatgerm pellets every few days in Summer. No doubt they munch on some of the many crustaceans, molluscs and tadpoles that inevitably end up in a healthy pond. This was the same animal a couple of months ago http://i16...

Is this shell rot?

.....or anything else to worry about? This particular cooter has been basking around the pond on his own even on cooler overcast days like today when the others don't haul out at all. http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u80/vwhendrix/2014-09-27132847.jpg There are pale patches on the carapace - not s...

TV programme worth a watch?

I've no idea if this will be inspiring, total rubbish, or somewhere in between .....

Re: hi all, newbie needing help please

Glad you feel at ease bellaboo - and I'm sure you're turtle does too! I'm kind of assuming (and may be wrong) that because you haven't heard from the rescue centre that they are struggling to find someone to take your turtle on. That's not surprising and not uncommon. In any case, if want to keep th...

Re: Summer Pond Attached To Decking

Quite pleased with it - might put an overhang around the perimeter to deter climbing though! Well that was a prophetic statement from my earlier post! With the weather cooling down quickly I decided to bring the 2 back in from the little pond. We hadn't seen Johnson, the musk for a while but assume...
